Stellar Staff – Diane

Diane Deniger is our stellar staff for April!

Diane grew up in Maine, spending her days paging through Alaska Magazine and picturing herself living in a log cabin on a hundred acres of land. In 1993 she was finally able to move to Thorne Bay, Alaska. She was very close to her neighbors there – she could reach out the window and actually touch the next door trailer.

After a stretch of time delivering pizzas for Papa’s Pizza, Diane started working for Community Connections on Prince of Wales.

“It felt really good to start giving back to the community,” she said.

Diane is now a service coordinator in the Senior and Disability Services program, and works mostly with older folks. Many of them are Tlingit, and have shared their history and culture with her.

“Many of them have a subsistence lifestyle… I’ve learned a lot from them.”

We also asked Diane what she does in her free time.

“I go home and clean,” she said, laughing.

“I read, knit, do beadwork, crotchet. And I have six grandchildren.” Two of them are on Prince of Wales, the other four are back in Maine.

These days, Diane does not live on a hundred acres of land, but she does have a log cabin. We’re glad to have you as a part of the Community Connections team, Diane!
