JOB SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the SDS Program Director, this position is responsible to supervise and facilitate individualized, comprehensive services that promote self-esteem, community participation, independence, and effective decision-making for adults experiencing physical and/or developmental disabilities living at a designated residential site. This position has a caseload of 2-4 clients and works collaboratively with the other Residential Specialists to oversee and support residents at their designated residential site.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

This position supervises 3-12 Support Specialists.

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Performs effective supervisory functions: interviewing, hiring, orientation, coaching, scheduling, ongoing training, performance reviews, staff recognition, and addressing performance issues and concerns;
  • Facilitates individual support teams to ensure effective delivery of services provided under the Plan of Care, bringing together customers, their families, support employees, community contacts, and other stakeholders toward this effort;
  • Closely communicates with Care Coordinator to implement customer Plans of Care to ensure service delivery under the plan meets the customer needs;
  • Provides individualized services to customers, including skill teaching, meal preparation, personal care tasks, employment supports, and social and recreational activities. This position will perform on average 24 hours of direct service per week including on-call backup to Support Specialists as needed (may include nights and weekends);
  • Monitors and supervises on call system for this residential facility, including scheduling and coverage of open shifts to guarantee consistent staff coverage of residential facility;
  • Accurately and timely completes daily service notes documenting services and progress toward achieving the individual’s plan goals;
  • Coordinates and supports facility and customer activities at the site and in the community, including marketing events, purchasing supplies, and facilitating activities, among others;
  • Supports facility and grounds maintenance, cleanliness and health & safety, by completing tasks and communicating needs;
  • Acts as the backup to other Residential Specialists when one goes on leave;
  • Performs other duties as necessary to ensure continued quality supports.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of and ability to use computer programs related to work including but not limited to database, spreadsheet, and word processing programs;
  • Knowledgeable about Medicaid Regulations and ability to operate within those and other service funder requirements;
  • Skilled in and the ability to use effective strategies to hire, supervise, and retain high quality staff to facilitate effective service teams;
  • Ability to understand services are dependent on customer needs and is flexible with the hours worked and nature of duties performed;
  • Ability to interact and communicate professionally with diverse populations including families, team members, supervisors and the public;
  • Ability to listen and ask for clarification when necessary, avoid defensiveness, and seek mutual understanding;
  • Ability to provide feedback to and seek feedback from team members, family members, and supervisor in a constructive manner;
  • Ability to maintain mutually respectful boundaries and abide to confidentiality at all times;
  • Ability to adapt to challenging situations and possess creative problem solving skills while working independently;
  • Ability to be dependable and follow through on commitments.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Three years of experience working with people who experience developmental or physical disabilities
  • One year experience creating professional and compliant documentation

Must be able to pass a criminal background check under agency guidelines and state regulations

REQUIRED LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION

Must possess and maintain a valid Alaska driver license, a personal vehicle and vehicle liability insurance to transport clients. Must be able to obtain First Aid/CPR and MANDT certification

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position is community and home based and requires the candidate to have a reliable vehicle to be able to transport customers and travel between work locations. Being able to lift fifty pounds and the ability to provide personal care assistance with toileting, showering and dressing may be required depending on the needs of individual customers. The work schedule may require flexibility with days and hours worked based on customer needs.

COMPENSATION and BENEFITS

Pay: $21.00 – $25.08/hour DOE
