Personal care assistance

Personal Care Assistance

Personal care assistance (PCA) is available through the State of Alaska Medicaid program, to individuals who need assistance with personal care, but who may not meet the level of care necessary for waiver services. PCA services provide support related to an individual’s activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, eating, and mobility as well as instrumental activities of daily living such as shopping, laundry, light housework, and meal preparation.

To determine eligibility for PCA services, a nurse assessor from the State of Alaska will do a one on one visit with the individual and will determine their approved service amount based on their physical abilities and functionality. Because services are individualized, we rely on the person receiving care to direct the staff with how they would like to be assisted.

These services can also be provided through a private pay agreement with Community Connections, in which case an assessment to determine eligibility is not necessary. Please contact us for more information and for assistance with applying for this service
