Connie isn’t leaving Prince of Wales Island anytime soon.
She came here many years ago, and now takes care of two elders in Whale Pass, as part of Community Connections’ Senior & Disability Services program.
“Although she works in our outermost site, she always takes the time to keep us informed on how her customers are doing. She always considers their needs first and foremost while working with them,” says Tammy Richter, who coordinates services for seniors and individuals with disabilities on Prince of Wales.
Connie says the best part of her job is when she walks into the room and sees her customers holding hands. (They are a married couple.) “And coming up with things that make them laugh. I just like to see when everything is going well.”
In her free time, Connie keeps up a garden full of vegetables and flowers. “That’s my passion. I dig in the dirt.”
Connie grew up in Oregon, and spent time in Washington and Canada before settling in Alaska.
“I absolutely love this state. Prince of Wales is the best part of it.”
We feature staff as part of our monthly Stellar Staff Spotlight. The spotlight rotates between programs (Children’s Mental Health, Early Learning, and Senior & Disability Services), and between Ketchikan and Prince of Wales, with a focus on recognizing direct service staff.
