Community Connections is proud to recognize Woody Green as our July Stellar Staff honoree. Since joining Community Connections in 2010, Woody has been a steady and reliable presence in the Senior & Disability Services Department, supporting countless individuals and wearing many hats along the way.
Woody’s supervisors and coworkers have nothing but positive things to say about him. Woody is known for his flexibility, compassion, and willingness to jump in wherever help is needed. His dedication to the people we support is evident in everything he does, and he consistently goes above and beyond to create meaningful opportunities for individuals with disabilities. From helping lead the annual Ward Lake campouts to traveling with self-advocates to Anchorage for the Peer Power Self-Advocacy Summit, Woody works hard to ensure people have opportunities to grow, connect, and thrive. A long-time coworker says, “I think Woody is a stellar staff because he is very focused on his customers and will always try to be there for them in any way that he can. He is a great advocate and is always willing to lend a hand and to learn about each client as they grow and change Woody also adapts and does so amazingly well.”
Having grown up in both Ketchikan, Alaska, and Buffalo, New York, Woody brings a unique perspective and energy to everything he does. When asked what he enjoys most about his work, Woody shared that he loves enriching the lives of others and advocating for inclusion. When discussing the challenges of the profession, Woody reflects on the balance between teaching and controlling. He emphasizes the importance of dignity, respect, and honoring the rights of each individual. His thoughtful approach to person-centered support exemplifies the values that define Community Connections.
Woody says the mission and values of Community Connections have helped shape both his professional and personal life. Outside of work, Woody enjoys spending time with his daughter, kayaking, running with his dog, collecting sports cards and LEGO sets, and learning woodworking. Woody’s personal motto says it all:
“Be Good. Do Good. Be Awesome! Go Bills!”
