Karmen is a true community connector.
Her primary job is working with children who experience mental health or behavioral challenges, but she really supports her entire village.
“She is a cornerstone to the community of Hydaburg,” says one of her coworkers. “She is literally there for everything that happens.”
Karmen grew up in Hydaburg, and has worked for Community Connections for 7 years now. She enjoys building relationships with kids through activities like fishing, arts and crafts, playing games, and other outings.
“Hydaburg would not be the same without her,” says another coworker. “She is loved, respected, admired and trusted.”
Hydaburg is a very small community, at just under 400 people. That means that everybody knows everybody, which sometimes makes it a challenge to provide “invisible” services.
In her free time, she enjoys reading, baking, and going for walks with her daughter.
Thank you Karmen, for everything you do.
We feature staff as part of our monthly Stellar Staff Spotlight. The spotlight rotates between programs (Children’s Mental Health, Early Learning, and Senior & Disability Services), and between Ketchikan and Prince of Wales, with a focus on recognizing direct service staff.
