Stellar Staff – Kristin

Kristin works with families in our Early Learning program. She loves beachcombing, berry picking and fishing too.

Kristin is our Stellar Staff for July! She is a Developmental Specialist III and an occupational therapist in our Early Learning program, working with families to support the development of their young children.

“I love that I can be creative,” she says. However, “It’s been a big challenge to adapt to using a telehealth format … I think it has worked for us because we are great at taking a “coaching” approach.”

Children do better when interventions & strategies are built into daily routines and completed by the family, instead of only by a service provider like a therapist. The therapist is there to provide ongoing coaching and guidance to the parents.

She has worked in many different capacities at Community Connections over the past ~15 years – Children’s Mental Health, administrative, and respite for individuals with developmental disabilities too.

Kristin lived in Whale Pass and Coffman Cove before settling with her family in Ketchikan. In her free time, she enjoys exploring local islands, beachcombing, berry picking, and fishing with her family.

“I’m usually more interested in watching for whales than the actual fishing part,” she says.

Thank you Kristin for helping to support the families of Ketchikan!

We feature staff as part of our monthly Stellar Staff Spotlight. The spotlight rotates between programs (Children’s Mental Health, Early Learning, and Senior & Disability Services), and between Ketchikan and Prince of Wales, with a focus on recognizing direct service staff.
