Support specialist extraordinaire Sherry Potter is our Stellar Staff for March! She works with clients in the senior & disability services program here. Sherry heard about Community Connections when she came to Ketchikan, but resisted it at first, having lived with an uncle with developmental disabilities. But she says several of her friends kept telling her about it, so she finally applied. Sherry has been with us for almost 10 years!
Her favorite part of her work is when clients discover something new. “Inspiring the people I work with is rewarding,” she says. However, it can be challenging when “the resistance to grow gets in the way, mine or theirs.”
Sometimes it can take a long time for a client to grow and learn, but “when it does, it makes me smile.”
In her free time Sherry listens to books, attends cultural events, and watches the bears that wander through her backyard.
We feature staff as part of our monthly Stellar Staff Spotlight. The spotlight rotates between programs (Children’s Mental Health, Early Learning, and Senior & Disability Services), and between Ketchikan and Prince of Wales, with a focus on recognizing direct service staff.
