Basket with socks

How did the sock drive start?

It was a way to give back.

Kathleen Kloep has worked at Community Connections for about five years now. She started the sock drive her first year here, as a memorial for a good friend of hers.

“She would annually collect socks from all the employees at the hospital, and then she would donate them to the Covenant House at Christmastime for the teenagers that lived there. She never had children of her own so it was kind of a way to give back.

“I truly admired her as a person and after she passed away from breast cancer, I got to thinking about what I could do to give back and I decided to talk to the director at Community Connections and we started the sock drive the first year I was here.

“It has just grown and grown over the last five years and become a really huge thing here at Community Connections. So I thank all of you for supporting us with the sock drive and have a happy holiday!
