Corey Goheen at Work

Stellar Staff – Corey Goheen

Corey Goheen, our November Stellar Staff, is our Foster Care Manager II and has been with Community Connections for 9 years.

She makes sure that kids in need of loving homes in Ketchikan and on Prince of Wales have a nurturing and safe place to go. This includes providing ongoing support, recruitment, training, licensing and day to day management for the Therapeutic Foster Care Program. Additionally, she is the Chair of the Family Focus Treatment Association, Alaska Chapter.

Corey enjoys making sure kiddos get the best possible match in a home. Knowing she has done everything possible to find a great match for the kids helps her sleep be􀆩er at night. She gives the Foster Parents credit for making the program work – they are all about nurturing, commitment, connecton and are all heart‐driven advocates for the kids.

Corey’s enthusiasm for her work is always evident, but it really shines after a great success story, such as foster kids being adopted in to a permanent home or being successfully reunited with their family of origin; she gets great satisfaction hearing about the many lifetime connections that have been made between foster families and youth.

Tandra Thompson, who supervises Corey, says that Corey always goes “above and beyond” for all those around her. Whether it be a dish for a potluck or a crisis intervention with a client, she always shows up in a big positive way. Her heart is always in the right place and she is constantly hoping for the best for everyone! Her professionalism is well known throughout the state and she has proven herself a great leader in the Therapeutic Foster Care Community. We are lucky to have her, she is a treasure that just keeps on giving!

In her spare 􀆟me, Corey spends her 􀆟me with her own kids and husband cooking, hiking, walking or playing card games. Her family is everything to her and loves spending 􀆟me whenever she can with her family on East Coast and her extended family from Prince of Wales.

Thank you, Corey, for your commitment to Community Connec􀆟ons and those in our Foster Program.

We feature staff as part of our monthly Stellar Staff Spotlight. The spotlight rotates between programs (Children’s Mental Health, Early Learning, and Senior & Disability Services), and between Ketchikan and Prince of Wales, with a focus on recognizing direct service staff.
