Stellar Staff – Shaunte

A longtime employee who brings her support specialist experience to her service coordinator position

It’s been a busy summer in the life of our Stellar Staff member for August: She celebrated her birthday, she’s receiving this recognition, and – most importantly – she got married!

Shaunte Meacock is a Service Coordinator II in Children’s Mental Health, a position she’s held for the past four years. Prior to that, she was one of our support specialists.

“I have really liked being more involved in the trainings and the morale-boosting part of the job; being able to put on good trainings and events and get-togethers for the staff,” Shaunte said recently. “It’s been really nice. Letting staff know they’re appreciated is really important.”

Shaunte has also been able to bring her experiences as a support specialist to the coordinator position.

“I knew that when I became a service coordinator I really wanted to make all our staff feel appreciated and know that the work they do is recognized,” she said.

Shaunte first came to know Community Connections when she provided private homecare for a young client in the Senior & Disability Services program. She grew up in Kake and relocated to Ketchikan when she was 21 years old. Her family is originally from Saxman.

Sarah Daly, Shaunte’s supervisor, was effusive with praise when asked about our August Stellar Staff.

“I think Shaunte just brings a really good understanding of what these kids need and what her staff needs,” Sarah said. “She has a lot of experience, and she’s a great employee and a great asset to the team.”

In her free time, Shaunte enjoys spending time with her son and taking him to ride his go-kart and bicycle.

Thank you, Shaunte, for all you do!

We feature staff as part of our monthly Stellar Staff Spotlight. The spotlight rotates between programs (Children’s Mental Health, Early Learning, and Senior & Disability Services), and between Ketchikan and Prince of Wales, with a focus on recognizing direct service staff.
